The first big snow since 2000! The pic on the left is taken from inside the kitchen through the screen and storm door. The one on the right in the front yard. Most everyone is smiling today. I had a really involved snowball fight last night with some of my AA peeps. My aim is still pretty good! It reminded me of the first time I got in serious trouble for cussing. We were living in Alexandria while Dad worked at the Pentagon (this was the year Kennedy was assinated) and the snow fort I so laboriously crafted was taken over by the next door neighbors kids -Todd and Tom Vandermollen. I guess I was 6 or 7. As they pelted me with my own snowball arsenal from my fort all I could think of to yell was, "you....shits...!!!"
One of the brothers, Tom I think, went straight in and told Mom who then washed my mouth out with Ivory soap. I remember it so vividly and to this day would rather go dirty than use Ivory. I think Mom and Dad tried out all kinds of parenting ideas out on me and by the time you came along they were much more chill. Kinda funny... that type of punishment from two such potty mouths as Mom and Dad. The first time I heard the F bomb was from Dad as he was screaming at Mom when he came home very late for dinner - drunk with no excuses. And when we visited Peg, Ray, Susie and Janie in KY I would come home rich from the nickel a cuss word fine I charged. Most of this would be earned during heated alcohol fueled card tournaments - poker, pinochle, spades, bridge - you name it they played it. They really had a blast though and really seemed to love one another. Mom and Dad were very social, lots of friends.
More later little sister....
